Folk Night at the Festival with Sherisse Stevens & Louis Tusz

August 3 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Experience the magic of Muskoka at the Chautauqua Folk Night: where melodies float on lake breezes and stories echo through the pines.

Experience the enchantment of Muskoka Chautauqua Folk Night featuring a dynamic duo: Sherisse Stevens and Louis Tusz.

Sherisse Stevens has been performing music since the age of three. She performed at events as a young girl and started working in television in her late teens. She travelled with CBC in the Prairies doing concerts, and moved to Toronto in the late 1970s. She won the “best new artist” category in the American Song Festival. She won the role of co-host in the CTV show “Circus” which bevame the first Canadian TV show to be syndicated around the world.

She continued performing live and on TV and radio and in 1986, she was the first Canadian to compete in the Eurovision Song Content. She moved to Muskoka in 1990 and played at Deerhurst and various resorts. Over the years she has worked in theatre as an actress and a musician, has done many fundraisers for various organizations throughout Muskoka, and conducted the Huntsville Youth Choir for 13 years.

Louis Tusz is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where he studied voice with Peter Wall and Ginette Duplessis, and choral techniques with Deral Johnson. He began his teaching career at Huntsville High School in 1988, teaching instrumental and vocal music, as well as music recording techniques.

In 1989 he founded the Huntsville Community Choir, and he is the choir’s current director. For 25 years Louis was vocalist and double-bass player in the Trillium Dixie Jazz Band. He played trumpet and bass for several years with the Northern Blues Revue and the Muskoka Blues Connection. In retirement, he enjoys writing and arranging for vocal and instrumental ensembles, and he continues to collaborate with other musicians and ensembles in a variety of musical styles including, most recently, conducting Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Whispering River Orchestra.

Join us for a celebration of music and community at the heart of Ontario’s tranquil wilderness.
